Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SKIM.
Research Analyst
I first heard about the company during a university presentation and was interested because it aligned with my expertise. I applied, but there was some confusion about my application. Initially, I applied for a Junior position in December and had a brief HR call about my interest in Skim and market research, which led to an interview invitation. However, during that call, it turned out they were considering me for a different role than what I applied for. This caused some confusion, and the initially offered interview was canceled. We rescheduled, and I was told they could offer me a more senior role after reviewing my CV. Despite concerns about my educational background not being a perfect match, HR assured me I'd have an equal chance for either role. I then received an online analytical test and a case study for the senior role, which were relatively easy, and I performed well. This led to an interview in January. For the interview, I had to prepare a presentation about myself and complete a separate 'behavioral' test, which indicated a balanced personality. The interview itself was with three people, lasting about an hour and a half. It included my presentation, followed by a Q&A about my background and a case study involving interpreting three graphs. Unfortunately, only one hiring manager was prepared and familiar with my CV. They discussed my application history in front of me. I received a rejection within five business days, citing that other candidates had better 'motivation and fit,' despite the job posting being open for six months. Upon requesting more details, I was given a vague explanation that the hiring managers struggled to understand my specific interests and how I saw myself fitting into the organization. This was confusing, as I had a dedicated slide on this in my presentation and received positive feedback during the interview. The entire process was disheartening due to what felt like unethical recruiting practices, making me question if SKIM is truly an equal opportunity employer, especially when the industry is trying to address a 'talent gap.'
- What were the results of the analytical case study, which was quite easy but time-constrained?
- Can you interpret the 3 graphs presented during the interview?

I applied a while ago and they emailed me to set up a video interview. The person interviewing me had an old resume and complained about not being able to hear me and the video freezing. I asked about the salary range during the interview but she didn't tell me. They said I'd hear back the next week, but I never did.
- What strengths do you think you can contribute to the company?

It was a pretty drawn-out process with many different steps. Communication could have been a bit better at times. SKIM's questions were on point for the job, and they answered my questions honestly.

- What are your thoughts on salary expectations?
