Instructional Designer
The interview process started with 2 screen interviews, each lasting 30 minutes. The final round involved a 4-hour presentation, though it ended up being shorter. The team was supposed to interview me for 4 hours, but it didn't last that long, and the end was really awkward. The home assignment they asked me to complete was something they were already working on, which felt pretty unethical. After the presentation, they asked a lot of questions. Then, I moved to another room where they questioned me about the design process, digging into every minute detail.
- What are your thoughts on the future of the learning experience?
Learning Experience Designer
I submitted my application online. After about two weeks, a recruiter reached out. We had a conversation covering the company, the team, and the position. Next, I interviewed with the manager of the Learning Design team, who was very welcoming and addressed all my questions. I was then tasked with completing an interview assignment and presenting it to a panel to assess my ID skills. The last step involved a conversation with the VP of Knowledge and Learning. The whole experience was straightforward and clear. Both the recruiter and manager were prompt in their communications. I really enjoyed my discussions with everyone, and consequently, I accepted the offer.
- Could you share your background in LxD?
- Do you have experience with any programming languages?
Instructional Designer
I first chatted with a recruiter, and then I had an interview with the team lead. The interview questions were pretty standard for an instructional designer. The lead mentioned that the recruiter would follow up about the next step, which was a technical interview. I didn't hear back until I sent a follow-up email. The recruiter apologized and sent me instructions for a presentation I needed to prepare for a panel interview. I completed and submitted the presentation task, which took a few hours, on time. However, I didn't get a response. The lead designer eventually emailed me to explain that the recruiter was out and my submission was overlooked, but promised I'd hear from them soon. After another week with no word, I emailed again. They finally informed me they had moved forward with another candidate. While I get that this happens, it felt unfair to have me complete the presentation task and then not follow through. It left a negative impression of the company. I don't think they meant any harm, but it seemed disorganized.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
- Show me your skills with a technical task.
