Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Singapore General Hospital.
Executive
Got an interview call a couple of weeks after I applied. Had to send in some paperwork before the interview. It was with 3 staff members and 1 HR person. They asked about current events, past projects, and my personality. Also had a take-home assignment due 24 hours after the interview finished. Overall, it was a good experience. Got the offer two weeks after that.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Why did you choose this department?
- What are the latest happenings related to the work the department is handling?
Executive
The hiring manager talked about the role and asked if I was up for the challenge. I asked if they were looking for someone to start right away or if there would be time to learn. He said they hadn't decided yet. Near the end, the HR person, who had been there the whole time, asked me the same question again and seemed out of sync. I think HR and the hiring team should figure out what they need before interviewing candidates so they don't waste people's time.
- How confident are you in your ability to take on this role?
Executive
The interview seemed to go well. About a week later, I was informed by HR that she was going to offer me but she needs to run reference check and submit to management for approval. Will call me in a few days. Told me to reprint my certs as I told her I misplaced my original certs. After waiting for more than 3 weeks, I was finally informed that the offer is off. I asked why but was told me that I wasn’t suitable and vaguely said it could be due to salary, ref check and education. I was shocked because this has never happened to me before. Until now, I’m still wondering why? And why couldn’t tell me exactly why? I respect their decision but would appreciate it if I can know. It would help me a lot in my next job search. If they don’t intend to tell me why, they should have done the ref check and get approval before telling me that they want to offer me. Until now I’m still wondering if I have any bad records anywhere without my knowledge...
