Simon & Schuster General Intern Interview Questions
& Process

I got an email that instructed me to contact someone in HR. We had a conversation where we covered basic questions about my past experience and how I found out about the internship. She inquired about my interests. I didn't emphasize one of my key skills enough, which was very relevant to the internship field I was aiming for, and possibly because of that, she informed me the position was already filled. I was presented with two different internship areas, and after I selected one, she asked me questions pertinent to that department. This was surprisingly easier than I'd anticipated.

I applied online and they got back to me a week later. They said I was the perfect candidate with a perfect resume and cover letter, and a great fit. One employee asked the interviewer if she was going to hire me, and the interviewer enthusiastically said "I hope so!". I met the head of HR and we chatted. I had a good feeling after the interviewer's comments and was told I'd get an update mid-May and a definitive answer by early June. If rejected, I'd still get an email. June passed, and it's now September and I still haven't heard back, so I didn't get the internship. Simon & Schuster should communicate better with candidates. It was heartbreaking to get excited and then get radio silence. I won't apply again.
