First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Silicon Valley Bank.
Executive Assistant
The company, in a bizarre move during a financial collapse with trading suspensions and startups exiting, posted this job. It didn't seem promising, so I withdrew my application.
- Have you worked in fast-paced, evolving situations before?
Administrative Assistant
You'll talk with about 3 to 5 people, each chat lasting around an hour. They'll hit you with a lot of questions and scenarios to get a good feel for you. Since it's a bank, your credit score really does matter for this role!
- What was your motivation for applying to SVB?
Administrative Assistant
The initial interview was pretty standard and nice. Then in the second interview, I met more of the admin team. They mentioned a third stage to meet the directors I would support, but they ended up cutting that short. I was initially really impressed with SVB and excited about the possibility of working there. They took about a week to make a decision and then extended an offer. I requested a couple of days to think about it, partly due to personal circumstances and also because I had other offers. They denied this request and pushed for an immediate decision, stating that a delay would mean I wasn't 'committed' to SVB. They continued to pressure me, even threatening to withdraw the offer, which led me to decline. SVB presents itself as a company that values its employees, offers good work-life balance, and prioritizes your well-being. However, my experience showed this wasn't the case when they wouldn't even give me two days to consider their offer. Not a good look.
