Sales Associate
Found the job on LinkedIn and the recruiter got back to me right away. We had a phone interview the same day to discuss my past work and why I wanted to join SignPost. Then, I was set up for an in-person interview in Austin the next week. Unexpectedly, my current manager called me the day after the recruiter contacted me, mentioning that an account manager from SignPost had called her about my job search. This was concerning because I never listed her as a reference, which felt like a major red flag. The in-person interview had three parts: first, a meeting with the recruiter to go over the same info again; second, I shadowed an associate who was not communicative and told me not to speak when I asked a question; and third, an interview with the sales manager and director, who were quite nice and asked standard questions. The next day, I had a final interview with the Sales Director where I had to do a cold call to sell the product and give a presentation. He was most concerned about my past work history, fearing I'd be a 'know it all,' which I found offensive since I only brought up past companies when asked. This made me unlikely to accept an offer. The company and product are good, but the unprofessionalism from the people left a bad impression.

Applied in the morning and got an email from the Ops Coordinator asking if I could chat that afternoon. The first call was 15 minutes and then I moved on to the next round at the local office. The second interview was in person with the office manager and my future sales manager/trainer. It felt like a good cop/bad cop thing, but for sales, it was a good way to sort through applicants. Two days later, I got an email for the final interview round. The last interview involved a sales presentation where I had to give a mock demo to the VP of Sales and the office manager using a PowerPoint I made. After the demo, they asked a few more general questions. Later that day, the head of HR called to offer me the job.

The company was really quick with emails and phone calls. The phone interview was a surprise, but it was professional and they invited me for another interview. I was expecting to meet a few people at the office, but only the hiring manager was available. The hiring manager was nice and professional, though a bit disorganized. The interview felt a bit stiff and the questions jumped around. Overall, it was an okay interview. I hadn't seen Wolf of Wall Street yet, so the question about the pen felt out of the blue.
- Can you sell me this pen?
