I had an initial chat with HR where they gave me the rundown on the role and company, asked about when I could start and my salary expectations, and had me introduce myself. After that, I had an in-person interview with the manager and some other folks from product and research. It was really cool that the second interview was in person. The team was super friendly and easy to talk to. We went over some real-world examples, which made the discussion interesting and relevant. I liked getting to see the office and get a feel for the place. Meeting everyone and getting a sense of the company culture in person really made a difference. Usually, the in-person part is way at the end, but I think it's super important for seeing if it's a good fit for both sides. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm really hoping to move on to the next step.

Behavioral Presentation

I applied through the usual channels and had a great initial chat with a senior talent partner. This was followed by an equally interesting first interview with the VP of product, which was probably the peak of the good experience. Then I was invited to a case study presentation, and I didn't get to choose the time, just got one slot, which was fine. I was expecting to meet with another Product Designer and the VP again, so I prepared to showcase what we discussed previously. To my surprise, the VP didn't attend that meeting, but someone else did, forcing me to think fast and adapt my presentation's narrative. That's okay, though; everyone's busy. After that, there was radio silence. No feedback, no updates. I emailed the hiring manager for the role, but again, no response. I was completely ghosted. So, be warned that these people might not have much respect for candidates' time.

The interview started with a quick recruiter chat, then an hour-long interview with an Engineering Manager and an Engineer which felt pretty easygoing. After that, there was a take-home project where I had to build a UI for an API using two 2D wireframe mockups. They said not to spend more than 3-4 hours on it, but the feedback focused on missing implied features and not perfectly matching the monochrome 2D wireframes (like using 4 columns instead of 3), lack of error handling, and lack of documentation. Honestly, in my 15 years of experience, no one could realistically complete all that—design, API investigation, functionality, error handling, tests, and documentation—in just 4 hours unless they were speedrunning it or lying about the time. It seems like they expect way more than 4 hours of work for a 4-hour task, which feels like a waste of time and reflects poorly on Signal AI's hiring process.

Behavioral Presentation

It was a 5 stage interview process: first, a self-recording video interview with 3 questions, then a video call screening by 3 people from the company, followed by a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager. After that, there was an in-office interview with the hiring manager and the team. Finally, a task where I had to pitch a product of my choice. Even though I was clear about my experience from the second stage and made it to the last stage, the rejection was justified as not having enough experience. They could do better with people’s time and their feedback.
