First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sierra Space.
Mechanical Engineer
I went through 3 rounds of interviews. First, an initial phone screening with HR that was personality focused. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager over zoom/teams where they asked technical and situational questions. Finally, I had an in-person presentation followed by about 2 hours of 1 on 1 interviews.
- How do you go about creating a work order?
Systems Engineer
This was a multi-stage interview process. First, there was a phone call with the team lead about the role and my background. Then, a Zoom meeting with the team lead and PM, which also covered general information and team culture. The final stage was an on-site interview with the team lead, PM, and two team members. It began with a 10-minute presentation I gave about how one of my past experiences connects with a company core value. This was followed by technical questions and then questions about culture and leadership. Based on feedback and vibes, they seemed happy with my presentation and answers. However, I didn't get the job. The feedback for the time, travel, and preparation was just an automated rejection email, no call. It felt like a waste of time and effort, and I probably wouldn't go through it again with this company.
- Can you share an instance where you led your team through a conflict?
- As a leader, how have you handled conflicts within your team?
Quality Engineer
It was a telephone interview, with questions about my experience, the team, and how I'd solve problems. They asked about my background with green belt, investigations, MRB, PCB, wire harnesses, crimping, NACE, and coatings. We discussed hours, shifts, overtime, and travel. They also asked about companies I've worked for, benefits, cleanrooms, ESD, IFS, SAP, OODO, and ERP. Time management was also a topic.
- How would you solve a problem?
Human Resources Business Partner
I had an initial phone chat with the recruiter, it wasn't a video interview. This was actually one of the worst interviews I've ever had. The recruiter seemed really disengaged and I could hear them sighing while I was answering questions. They also got defensive when I asked about how the current job market was affecting employee turnover and recruiting, and how this role could help with that. I didn't get to the next round, but they said there would be two more interviews before an offer.
- Can you walk me through your previous jobs?
- Describe a successful project you managed.
- What's your approach to handling difficult people?
