It was a decent interview process, similar to the Junior Content Marketing Specialist role. It started with a 30-minute initial call that went well. They asked me to rate my SEO experience on a scale of 1 to 10 and what my favorite superhero is. Then I did a take-home project that took about 2 hours, which basically mirrors the day-to-day tasks of the role, with a heavy focus on PR and SEO. The final round involved interviews with three different people, lasting around 1.5 hours. They asked similar questions to everyone, and a couple of interviewers specifically inquired about my SEO experience and my approach to creating blog posts. They explained that my daily responsibilities would include contacting people to promote specific blog posts and secure placement on their websites. On the downside, I suspect they didn't thoroughly read my cover letter, as they seemed confused when I referenced it, making me question why I bothered submitting it.

Applied and had to do a quiz where I had to find technical SEO issues on a website. Got an email about 1-2 weeks later to schedule a phone interview. The interview was great, the hiring manager was outgoing and enjoyable to talk to. Then, I was given a test project and had 1 hour to complete it. This was a mini SEO audit. I felt like the time limit was a red herring. 2 weeks later I hadn't heard back yet so I reached out to the hiring manager, got positive feedback, and was asked to proceed to the last round. I would have 3 back-to-back interviews with a manager, then the COO, and finally the CEO. Unfortunately, I never got to experience the 3rd round because the day before my interviews I was informed that they had filled the role.

First, there was a 45 min phone screening with HR. Right after that, I had a 2 hour project to complete. The last step, which might have been the final one, consisted of 3 interviews, each lasting 30 minutes, with different team members. Everyone was nice, but I thought the final step was a bit much. It seemed like no one had looked at my resume or my work, and I felt like they were only seeing parts of my work instead of the whole picture. They definitely seem to have a lot of interviewers. I didn't hear back after that. I sent a nice email a few weeks later and still got no reply. I get that hiring is busy, but after investing 5 hours and meeting multiple people, I think a quick email update is the least they could do. They're a marketing company, so they should know how to automate that.

Technical Other

After an initial phone screen, I was given a timed project. It was unusual for me to do a timed project right after a phone screen, as I've done many projects before in interviews but never under timed conditions. I didn't even speak with anyone other than HR, and they asked me to spend an extra 2 hours during my workday on this project. I felt they didn't respect my time. I regret doing the project because they decided to go with someone else, and they didn't provide any feedback on the unpaid work they requested. This experience lowered my opinion of an agency I had previously thought highly of.
