First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sidley Austin.
Legal Assistant
I went through more than five rounds for a Legal Assistant position. It was a professional but long process. I didn't get the job at first, but they reached out months later when it reopened. I appreciated how they communicated and acted professionally throughout.
- Would you be alright with working extended hours?
Paralegal
I applied through a headhunter, then went in to meet the paralegal manager. I also met a partner and an associate. Everyone was nice and seemed interested. It's a no-nonsense firm that seems really open to women and minorities. The whole thing took about two weeks.
- What makes you want to work at Sidley?
- What's your approach when you're given too much work?
Legal Assistant
Applied through my university's job board and was contacted by HR the next day. I went in the following morning for an interview that lasted about 2-3 hours. I met with HR first, then was interviewed by a) an HR staff member who hires legal assistants, b) three legal assistants, c) an attorney, and d) another attorney. I signed some paperwork before the interview. I was hesitant about the job because the legal assistants were very open about disliking the long hours and repetitive tasks.
- Given the demanding hours, the repetitive nature of the work, and that you'd be handling tasks the lawyers prefer not to, what makes you want this position?
