Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sidley Austin.
Manager
The interview process took way longer than they first said and took up a lot of my time, with a bunch of different interviews over many weeks. Some chats were tougher than others, as expected, but all in all, the conversations were insightful and really gave me a feel for the team and the job. But, after the last part, they just stopped talking to me. I reached out a few times, but never heard back or got any info on what happened. It was a bummer to get ghosted after putting in so much effort.
- What's motivating your job search away from your current role?
Senior Manager
They almost ignored me after the final interview, and it took them about 3 weeks to inform me that they had chosen another candidate. It was a really disappointing experience overall. There were 3 interviews in total, with 2 of them being onsite. I spoke with the hiring manager and two other senior staff members. The interview itself was pretty standard. Additionally, there was a personality assessment and an Excel test that I had to complete between the first and second interviews.
- Could you introduce yourself and explain why you are suitable for this position?
- What makes you a good candidate for this role?
Manager
The interview had several people from different departments, including lawyers. There were many competency questions about how I do things, use data, and what I look for. I was also given a hypothetical scenario to explain my approach.
- How do you do that?
- How do you use the data?
- What are you looking for?
