First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sidley Austin.
Summer Intern
The whole process was pretty chill. Mostly just chatting. There was a short article to read with 15 mins prep, about a month old when I did it. We talked about it for 30 mins, though I heard some partners barely touched it. You can go super deep, but it's fine to say you don't know. Then they asked motivational questions, and a partner would really dig into one part of your answer. It was very relaxed at all stages.
- What makes you want to join Sidley?
- Why are you interested in US firms?
Summer Vacation Scheme
It was a pretty straightforward interview that lasted about an hour and I met with a Partner. It was split into two sections: the first was all about competencies, and the second was commercial awareness. For the competency part, they asked standard questions like 'tell me about a time you failed' and 'tell me about a time you worked in a team and overcame an obstacle.' The commercial awareness part involved discussing a Financial Times article with the Partner.
- What makes you want to join Sidley over other similar firms?
Summer Intern
I had a 1-hour interview with a partner. I was asked to read a FT article beforehand. The interview included competency questions about my networking and teamwork experiences, as well as commercial questions about private equity and the role of a partner.
- What skills do you believe a partner possesses?
- Can you share an example of your networking experience?
- Tell me about your experience working in a team.
