Sales Executive
It started with a phone interview with the District Sales Manager, which I felt went pretty well and was relatively easy. The next step was an in-person interview with two male managers: the District Sales Manager and the Regional Sales Manager. This was a very intimidating live interview. Some questions were predictable, but others were tough. These guys were all business, so there wasn't much room for small talk or showing my personality. I really wanted this job and thought I was prepared, but I realized I wasn't quite as ready as I needed to be. The interview lasted about 45 minutes, and I was glad when it finally ended. This was my first interview in three years.
- What are your former boss's key descriptors for you?
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Describe your preference for teamwork versus individual work and the reasoning behind it.
Sales Executive
Got a call from a recruiter first, and she set up a phone interview for me four days later. After that phone interview, I had to do an assessment test. Once I finished the test, the recruiter emailed me again and scheduled an in-person interview with the area manager. That interview went well, and they invited me to do a ride-along with his team a few days later. I got to see how things worked in the office, including a team meeting, cold calling, and door knocking. The manager then mentioned another phone interview with a training manager. I talked to him on the phone, and he asked me about my experience. So pretty much, I had two phone interviews, a ride-along, and two in-person interviews, and still didn't get the job. It felt like I was applying to the FBI with all those interviews. They took up a lot of my time, so for the next person in line, just be ready for how much time you're going to be spending with them.
- Can you tell me about your previous jobs?
- What are your weaknesses when it comes to sales?
- What are your strengths in sales?
Sales Executive
The first interview is tough, really tough. Sales itself is tough, so you gotta have thick skin and be ready to get shot down. You need to overcome indifference and show your own features and benefits. Emphasize discipline and organization. You have to fight for the position just like you'd fight for the job. If you show some basic skills, they can coach you. If you're a sales veteran, just have a chat, brag a bit where you can, and support when possible.
- Can you explain the sales process?
