The interview process spanned over eight weeks and included more than four interviews. While the discussions were insightful and the team was transparent about their work environment, I received a call late in the process. The recruiter informed me I was selected and awaiting the hiring manager's return from a trip. I interpreted this as a favorable decision, and we just needed to complete the paperwork. After eight weeks, I believed this was the case. Upon the hiring manager's return, I underwent an additional interview round. A few days later, after following up, I received an automated rejection email. My advice: never trust them unless a contract is signed, and don't stop considering other offers until you have a signed contract.

The HR team is small and collaborative, so I met with all the US team members. It was organized: I met my manager and the VP, then the HRBPs, then the TA Partners and Benefits manager. They asked basic questions about experience, skills/software, comfort with deadlines and juggling priorities, and working/communication style. They seemed focused on communication as a potential concern from the prior person in the role. They were hesitant about the 401(k) match details, but offered to connect me with the benefits person. The whole process from application to offer acceptance and start date took about a month.

Behavioral

The interview process at Shorelight felt really genuine and like a normal conversation, unlike other interviews I've had where it felt like a panel and I was super stressed about what I was saying. At Shorelight, all four rounds felt like I was just talking with colleagues. I talked to the talent acquisition person, a VP/founder, a regional director, and the general manager for North and South America. It was actually pretty calm and felt natural, like they just wanted to know my story and how it led me to Shorelight. All four interviews were phone calls, lasting about 45 minutes to an hour. I did most of the talking, and the time went by fast because it was a good conversation. The questions were pretty general, like "What is your story?", "How did you hear about Shorelight?", "Why do you want to work here?", and "Why international education?". I didn't get the feeling they talked to each other about me beforehand because it didn't feel rehearsed or like there was a hidden motive. I realized this was a company that fit how I work: sociable, accountable, precise, but also casual. I've been here since July 2019, through the pandemic, and my sense of belonging and wanting to contribute hasn't changed. If you're thinking about interviewing here, just be yourself, and you'll know if it's the right place. You're not just filling a role; you're joining a mission-driven team that prioritizes international students.

I heard about the company from someone I knew who works there. I applied online and then HR got in touch with me about a first phone interview a few days later. The phone interview was about 30 minutes and we discussed my past experiences and more about Shorelight and the culture. Later that same day, HR contacted me again to schedule an in-person interview in a few weeks. About two weeks later, I went to the office for 3 interviews that were each about 30 minutes. I was contacted the next morning and was given an offer, which I accepted.
