The recruiter ghosted me from the get-go, right after they scheduled a time. I confirmed, but then heard nothing. At the scheduled time for the first recruiter call, I waited 10 minutes and then had to email them. They didn't respond but called eventually. The conversation was uninspiring, and they didn't clearly explain the role or what the hiring manager wanted. They said they'd follow up in a few days, and predictably, they never did. I followed up twice and only found out I didn't advance when I checked my Workday account. It's stressful enough being an interviewee without recruiters going silent. Shipt needs to improve this.

Behavioral Technical Case

Shipt used a third-party recruiter for this role, described as a product manager for geospatial data and analytics platforms. I interviewed with the hiring manager, and it was the most misaligned interview I've ever experienced. The hiring manager dismissed the need for geospatial tech knowledge, calling it something "anyone smart" could figure out, and stated they wanted a generalist PM. The interview didn't cover my knowledge of location intelligence or how I'd address Shipt's specific geospatial challenges. Instead, the manager posed irrelevant hypothetical scenarios about processing "shopper" driver licenses. It felt like a waste of time for everyone involved. The interview concluded without the manager learning anything significant about my background due to the focus on an irrelevant hypothetical. Although the poor execution made me uninterested in Shipt, neither the recruiter nor Shipt followed up, which reinforced my negative impression of their recruiting practices. In essence, for specialized tech roles like geo-tech, domain expertise in product managers is crucial, not generalists without depth.

Case Behavioral Presentation

Had one round of interviews with the product team, which was a great experience and the interviewer was friendly. It was a case study format where I was given time to prepare beforehand. The interview lasted about 1 hour in total and included product design and other behavioral questions.
