Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sherwin-Williams.
Customer Service Specialist
So after I applied, they sent me an email for a video interview. Once I finished that, I got a call to set up an in-person interview. I went, they asked me some questions, and I got a tour. It felt like it went pretty well, they said they'd be in touch soon, but then I didn't hear anything for about two weeks. Finally, I got an email saying they'd gone with another candidate. I've been getting emails weekly about the same job posting on recruiting sites.
- Can you share an instance where you had to handle a difficult customer and describe your approach?
Customer Service Specialist
The interview was a Teams meeting, about 30 minutes long, and unfortunately it wasn't a great experience. The manager was late by about 5-10 minutes and the interview started without her, just with a team lead. The manager joined mid-sentence while I was answering the first question. She was a bit distracting, and I asked if I should restart, but she said to just continue. I tried to stay focused and not panic. They asked about my future plans, and I shared that I'm looking for a company where I can improve and develop my skills, aiming to become a team leader and grow with the company. They also asked about my experience, but the manager didn't have my resume, which seemed unprepared. Since she didn't have it, I felt I had to lead the interview, which is really her role. It's strange that a hiring manager wouldn't have a candidate's resume. After the interview, I sent a thank you email to the manager. A few days later, I was rejected with the reason 'over prepared,' which I find unbelievable. For a specialist role, good memory and attention to detail are crucial. The agent also mentioned that my thank you email put the manager off and she didn't appreciate it. Honestly, that sounds like a very unprofessional hiring manager. A thank you email shows maturity, appreciation, and interest. From what I understand, the hiring manager is quite new and perhaps not experienced enough to lead interviews. I felt I was denied a chance. Maybe she felt threatened by my future ambitions. I'm very disappointed. My values align with Sherwin Williams' values, and I was hoping to get the job, as I have the required experience and want to grow with the company. It's unfortunate that the hiring manager's unprofessionalism cost me this job.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What are your aspirations for the future?
Customer Service Specialist
The interview process for this part-time CS role during covid involves a few steps. First, a regional hiring manager will email you to schedule a phone call. On this call, they'll ask you about your customer service experience from your resume, your strengths and weaknesses, and go over the job description to see if you're a fit. You can also ask questions about pay, max hours for part-time (28 hrs), and next steps. Second, you'll need to meet the store manager in person at the store. Bring your resume and dress in business professional attire. The interview typically lasts about 30 minutes. They'll ask similar questions as the hiring manager, discuss store needs, and give you a tour. You can ask about training, staffing levels per shift, and COVID safety. Finally, they'll email an offer letter. After accepting, you'll start in 2-3 weeks following a background check.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
