Customer Success Manager
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter within a week, who was friendly and seemed invested in finding a good match. However, the subsequent steps didn't quite match that positive start. The next interview was with a CS team leader who mostly discussed his own experiences, the role's difficulties, and the product's complexity, leaving little time for my questions. He asked a single, unusual riddle about water buckets to gauge my thinking, which felt out of place for a Customer Success role and came off as somewhat condescending. The panel interview was more structured but still peculiar. I had to prepare and deliver a hypothetical customer presentation to two managers who weren't directly in Customer Success. Although the presentation went well, it was odd that no actual CS team members were present to assess my ability to communicate value, a key part of the job. The final stage involved another interview with a manager from a related but not directly managed CS team. This conversation was okay, but by then, the entire process felt disjointed and not quite aligned with the CSM position I applied for. Major concerns included the lack of diversity among interviewers (mostly white males, with only one from CS) and the unprofessional generic rejection email with no feedback after I invested significant time researching and preparing a presentation. This felt dismissive and suggested a potentially insular company culture.
- Given a 3-gallon bucket and a 5-gallon bucket, how would you measure precisely 4 gallons of water?
Customer Success Manager
It was a pretty standard process, starting with a scheduled phone call with the recruiter. I didn't make it further in the process myself, but they did pass my resume along to a partnered company that ended up hiring me.
- Can you describe how you would assist tenants in boosting their adoption of our software?
Customer Success Manager
I had a phone chat with the hiring manager, then an onsite interview with the VP, Hiring Manager, and the team of Success Managers. I also had to do a 10-20 minute presentation about Client Success. Everyone was really professional and nice. They gave me a tour of the office at the end to see the teams working.
- What would your top performing employee say about you as their manager?
