First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Serta Simmons Bedding.
HR Business Partner Director
I got a surprise call from a Recruiter for a phone screen, they gave me the job details and scheduled a Zoom with the hiring manager. But I never got the invite, and they didn't respond to my follow-ups. Then, a different Recruiter contacted me saying the first one left the company. She rescheduled the interview and said she'd follow up afterward, but she never did, not even after my email. The job's filled now and I heard nothing. If this is how Serta operates, I guess I'm lucky I didn't end up there.

Data Engineer
I applied through LinkedIn and got my first round scheduled pretty fast. After that, I went through 4 interview rounds, but never heard back, not even after emailing the team lead. Over two weeks, I spoke with the team lead, the engineering director, a panel of developers, and then the team lead again. All interviews were via video. The first interview with the team lead started 15 minutes late, and it was mostly about culture and how my experience fits. The director was 10 minutes late, and it was also mostly culture and "tell me about a time" questions. The panel interview went well, with situational questions and good answers to my questions about company culture. The team lead missed the last interview for a doctor's appointment, so it was rescheduled. Honestly, the interviews themselves were okay, and we had good talks about their tech and future plans, but being late for 3 out of 4 and then ghosting is just disrespectful.

People Generalist
I applied online for the People Generalist position at T&N and was quickly contacted via email to set up a call with their Head of Recruiting and Candidate Experience. The phone call was brief and positive, and I learned more about the role, its purpose, and their ideal candidate. Following that, I had another well-received call with the Head of People. My next step was an in-person meeting at their beautiful downtown Phoenix office. There, I met the entire People team and the T&N COO. The office environment made me feel instantly welcome and part of the team, easing any pre-interview nerves. Over the next few hours, I answered questions from the team, asked my own questions, and discussed future company plans and current challenges. About a week after my visit, I received a call informing me I wouldn't be moving forward. While I was disappointed, the feedback call was delivered with genuine human connection. Despite not getting the role, I truly appreciated the interview process and the opportunity to be considered. I wish the hired candidate success and hope to connect with the team again in the future.

Production Supervisor
The corporate HR team first reached out to ask some initial questions to see if my application would be passed along to the hiring manager. If they were interested, they would have called back to set up an interview. I'm not sure about Serta's process since the first time I applied in March, they told me hiring was put on hold. I reapplied six months later, and they got back in touch and I interviewed with two different people. Both times, it felt like they had already decided who they wanted before the interview even started, but they still went through the entire process. This doesn't seem like a place for professionals because the people I met weren't very professional. I got the feeling they're not open-minded at the Houston plant and want someone who just follows orders.
