Product Manager
The whole thing was online and took about 6 weeks, with 5 rounds plus a home assignment. It was a good experience overall. The home assignment was fine, not too hard. They were honest when I asked questions. HR kept me updated and let me know the final outcome by phone, although it wasn't an offer.
- Regarding your work on API products, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
Principal Product Manager
The interview process felt a bit unorganized, like they were still figuring things out. Honestly, felt like a waste of time. It started normally with a recruiter call, then a chat with the VP of product. After that, there was a panel interview with four people from different departments (eng, support, product, hiring manager). Then came a take-home assignment. Initially, it was a writing prompt: 'What is the most inventive or innovative thing you have done professionally?'. But then they switched it up to a 30-minute presentation to the panel and two senior leaders about a build/partner/buy decision. They said they were looking for 'presentation skills, strong business case/perspective, ability to take feedback and iterate'. I sent them a draft of my presentation via Loom for feedback and made changes based on what little they gave me. I came up with an evaluation framework, financial models for three scenarios, and a solid slide deck, even creating my own brand-compliant version since no template was provided. My presentation was under 15 minutes, with plenty of backup slides. The questioning afterwards felt more like an interrogation than a discussion. The only feedback I got at the end was, 'We'll be in touch shortly; good job'. But then I was rejected for 'not enough technical depth' in the presentation, which wasn't even mentioned as a criterion beforehand.
- Would you be open to waking up very early to collaborate with the team in India?
Product Manager
The interview process started with a 1st phone call with HR, followed by a 2nd 30-min call with the hiring manager. Then, there was a 3rd 30-min call with the AVP of Research. After that, the first Zoom interview was 90 minutes with the hiring manager and the development group manager. The second Zoom was 75 minutes with the VP of Product and AVP of Research. Finally, the third Zoom was 1 hour with the CPO. Overall, it was a bad experience due to many delays and a long process. Everyone except the hiring manager was late. Each interviewer described the role differently. Hierarchy is very important to them. The CPO made it clear it's a small position focused on managing the research team's roadmap. The VP stressed it's a very hard role, looking for a 'superman'. The hiring manager seemed to be the only one who genuinely wanted to recruit and respected my time. The rest of the team was arrogant and looked for specific answers. After passing all steps and over a month of communication, I received a rejection email stating it wasn't exactly what they were looking for.
