I first spoke with the Recruiter for a screening. She was professional and friendly, and kept me updated on each step. Then, I was given a technical exercise to do, which they reviewed. After that, I had an interview with another Technical Writer. This person was also professional and friendly, and asked me questions about my technical writing skills and experience. The final interview was with the director, and it was similar – professional and friendly, focusing on my skills and experience. They let me know when to expect a decision, and they got back to me within that time. It was a good interview experience with Semperis overall.

Behavioral

I initially applied to a LinkedIn ad. I was validated and had an HR interview (multiple contacts with 2 HR reps) lasting 30 minutes which went well, and a second interview with a CSM Department Manager. This interview also went well, and then a robotic rejection message without explanation arrived a few days later. Due to a misunderstanding on my part, I asked the HR reps for more information, but their response remained unclear. Several weeks later, an HR rep (the same one) contacted me again to say she was interested in my profile! I told her I had already interviewed with them a few weeks prior; she said she would look into it, and since then, no news. I think, based on the contacts I had, that Semperis is a good company, but the candidate experience could be improved.

Technical Coding Presentation

The process had 5 stages. It started with a technical interview with open-ended questions about JavaScript and React, plus a small coding challenge focused on promises and JS functions. Then came a home assignment where I had to create an SPA for a movie list with search and filtering capabilities. After that, there was an interview with the team leader, followed by an interview with the director, and finally an HR interview. The home assignment was problematic; the requirements were unclear, and they insisted on using state management even though it wasn't necessary. They estimated it would take 3-4 hours, but it ended up taking me nearly a week, which I regret. During the team leader interview, he was disrespectful and acted as if I already reported to him, completely disregarding that I did the assignment in my own time. He suggested I should have asked for an extension to finish the task, implying that spending so much time on a take-home was acceptable. He also stated I should have used Redux to fetch all data from the API and perform all searches and filters locally to circumvent API flaws, which I believe is nonsensical and poor practice. He mentioned I was only considered because the initial interviewers noted I understood virtual scrolling, even though I didn't implement it in the assignment. I felt he expected some sort of appreciation for granting me the opportunity to interview with him.
