It was a good interview. They asked me to sell them something and gave me a cardboard box. Then they asked me to introduce myself and about my previous customer service experience. They also asked why I picked Selfridges. After that, we looked around the store. I heard back a few days later saying I got the job.

My experience with Selfridges London's seasonal staff hiring wasn't the best, felt very impersonal. We all waited in the lobby at 40 Duke Street, not enough seats, so many of us were standing for over 20 mins because it was running late. Then someone took us upstairs, told us to sit at some big tables. A video about Selfridges played for a few mins. Then they asked who wanted to go first/next or was in a hurry to leave. People raised their hands to be picked. 2 managers interviewed 2 candidates at a time. This repeated until everyone was interviewed. After the interview, candidates showed their passport to a recruitment manager at a small table, who then showed them the way out. The 1:1 interview was weird, the interviewer asked my name and other questions from her laptop. The interviews were happening super close to where others were waiting, one behind a projector (about a meter away) and the other on the sofa next to us. We could clearly hear both and even see the one on the sofa. From a candidate's view, it was a strange setup, felt juvenile. I didn't like it, didn't seem like much thought went into the candidate experience, which says a lot about the company culture. I did the interview but knew it wasn't for me. Sitting on the sofa, I could see all the waiting candidates in my side vision. I don't want to be too honest here cause my review might get removed again, so I'll leave it at that.

Behavioral Case

I applied for a position at Selfridges. The hiring process had three stages. First, I submitted my application online through their main website. About a week later, the manager emailed me, inviting me to Selfridges for an interview. The interview was quite relaxed. The manager was friendly, which made me feel less nervous. The questions mostly focused on my past work experience. After this initial interview, I had to undergo an approval interview with a department manager. I think this step is to ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the Selfridges brand. This interview was more structured, as the manager asked questions related to Selfridges' five core values.
