Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SelectQuote.
Account Manager
The hiring process started with a very short pre-qualification call that happened earlier than scheduled. After that, a recruiter conducted a more detailed interview. Next, a "multi-tasking" test was sent over, which seemed irrelevant to the actual job duties, focusing more on insurance sales processes than order fulfillment. The test involved navigating unfamiliar screens, making it difficult to prepare. If successful, the next step was an interview with a manager. Unfortunately, follow-up attempts via email and phone calls were not answered, which was perceived as unprofessional.
- What motivates you to seek this role?
- What's your strategy if a candidate says they need to discuss the offer with their spouse before deciding?
Account Manager
A recruiter reached out to me online and conducted a brief, informal 10-minute phone screening. Following that, I was invited to the San Diego office for an interview with three managers. After this interview, I was told the recruiter would contact me to schedule a second interview for the following week. The recruiter confirmed this and said they would email options for dates and times. However, about 30 minutes later, I received a notification that they were not moving forward with my application. During the manager interview, they heavily promoted the company, repeatedly stating they are 'THE BEST,' which made me a bit hesitant. The interview itself was a standard sales-type interview, involving about 10 prepared questions.
- Are you currently a top performer in your role?
Account Manager
They have training sessions several times a year. If you apply when a new team is being hired, you might get called quickly, but don't worry if it takes longer. It's good to follow up. They also do background checks, but they're pretty lenient. Poor credit isn't an issue, and they can work with past criminal charges or DUIs, depending on when they happened. I've seen people hired with records, so they seem fair about it.
- During the interview, be prepared for a sales role-play scenario. Emphasize that you are a dedicated salesperson focused on achieving high earnings, aiming for six figures annually. Tailor your responses to highlight your motivation and financial drive.
- If your current income is under $100,000, clearly state that you are applying because you aspire to and need to earn over $100,000. Convey that you are hungry and driven.
