First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Selective Insurance.
Claims Adjuster
Went through about 3 or 4 phone and video interviews. They asked a lot of situation-based questions and were really informative. Everything moved pretty fast, they kept me in the loop, sent over paperwork about benefits, and then got back to me with an offer not too long after.

Manager
It started with a head hunter reaching out. Then a phone screen with HR. I had a Zoom call with the hiring manager (an AVP) about 2 weeks later. It was scheduled for an hour but ran 90 minutes, and it felt like a really good chat. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager's boss (a VP) and two of the hiring manager's peer AVPs. It was a bit weird because one of the AVPs I interviewed with wasn't someone I'd be working with directly. They told me I was the top candidate, but then they ended up eliminating the position before they even hired anyone.
- Given a team with both highly experienced individual contributors and less experienced employees needing guidance, what initial steps would you take to ensure the top performers remain motivated and the newer staff become more productive?
Client Services Sales and Marketing Specialist
I had an initial phone call screening, then an interview with the hiring manager, followed by two more interviews, one of which was a panel interview. I was told I'd hear back in a week, but I didn't. I sent multiple emails with no response. I figured I didn't get the job when I saw on LinkedIn that the position was no longer accepting applicants and that it was closed on the Selective portal. It took over a week after that to finally get a response saying I didn't get the position. I just wish there was better communication because it was a shame so much time was wasted trying to get a response after four interviews.
- How would you describe the color yellow if you were blind?
QA Manager
The hiring process was really slow. They had been trying to fill this QA Manager role for over 3 months when I applied. I had a video interview with two senior QA Managers. One was fine, but the other, who had a higher title, was incredibly disrespectful. He was pacing around during the interview, asking questions from off-camera, and posing totally irrelevant questions with a condescending attitude. This was a top company for me, but after the interview started, I knew I didn't want to work with that manager. I got an offer from another company a few days later and didn't even wait to hear back from this one, just because of that manager's bad attitude.
- Do you know anyone at our company?
- Are you absolutely sure you don't know anyone here?
- If you don't know anyone, how did you find us and apply for this job?
