I reached out to the recruiter for the region via email, and about two weeks later she called me for a brief phone interview. We discussed patient safety, nurse:patient ratios in my past roles, and she let me know the salary range for my experience. She also asked about patient acuity and if I was interested in moving forward. About a week after that, I had an interview with the CNO, who was very personable and seemed to have strong leadership qualities, with a very direct approach. We talked about my resume, and she asked me standard nursing interview questions. She gave me a tour of the unit, and upon returning, she offered me the job with a salary higher than what HR had indicated for someone with my background. I accepted and started the following week.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So after I applied and sent my resume to HR, the first step was a phone interview. Then there was a face-to-face interview with upper management and the education team. They asked me a bunch of questions about my background, education, skills, and personality. A big part of it was also asking about my future goals and how this job fits into them, and how the company could help me grow as a nurse. I really liked that it felt like a two-way conversation, where I was also evaluating them to see if it was a good fit for me. They were really open to all my questions, and it was important to them that we were both the right fit. They also gave me a full tour of the facility, showed me all the departments, and introduced me to a lot of the staff!

I have 25 years of ICU experience and hold a BSN and CCRN, all at the same hospital. Today, I was told my qualifications don't meet the job requirements, which is unbelievable. They recently hired a former colleague from my previous facility who lacks experience in ICU, ventilators, ACLS, CCRN, BSN, or medications.

  • Tell me about a time you had to resolve a conflict with a patient.
  • Describe a situation where you dealt with conflict among staff members.
  • How have you handled conflict situations involving patients' families?
