First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Security Industry Specialists.
Security Specialist
The hiring process sounded a bit sketch initially, but it turned out to be pretty good. The interviewer was very nice, and the interview itself was quite short. I actually spent more time on paperwork than the actual interview, about 50 minutes in the office.
- Can you describe a scenario where someone lacks the proper credentials to enter a facility and what actions you would take?
Security Specialist
This hiring process can be quite extensive. They are very particular about hiring the 'right' candidate and prioritize a professional appearance and strong work ethic over extensive experience. Many hires also have military backgrounds. The key qualities they seek are Attitude, Attendance, and Appearance, reflecting the company's core values. Appearing polished during the interview and showing a commitment to doing your best daily, despite challenges, is beneficial. Typically, you'll go through 2-3 interviews, including a phone screen, before being considered. The exact number of rounds depends on staffing needs and applicant volume. Even if you lack prior experience, they often provide training and cover necessary licensing costs upon hiring. Their drug and background screening is generally straightforward. A background check and a valid driver's license are required. While a guard card is advantageous, they will train the right candidate. One candidate mentioned only having one interview but waited about a week and a half for the offer, so patience is advised if you don't hear back immediately.
- Would you be open to working extra hours if a coworker suddenly couldn't make their shift?
- Is it acceptable for you to walk significant distances each night?
- Can you describe your proficiency with basic computer tasks relevant to their operational software?
Security Specialist
After applying, I got a call from a recruiter. Then, I had a short interview with the recruiter to check my background, professional presence, and guard credentials. After that, I met the on-duty Watch Commander. We talked about security situations, my background, and he asked me about pay and benefits for full-time staff. The recruiter gave me the offer after the Facility Manager gave the okay.
- Tell me about security scenarios.
- Can you discuss compensation and benefits for full-time employees?
