First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Second Order Effects.
Electrical Engineer
I had three interviews. The first was with HR, starting with basic questions like 'why this company,' 'hardest engineering challenge,' and 'tell me about yourself.' In the last 20-30 minutes, she asked some fundamental EE questions, for example, how to design a flashlight and the differences between SPI and I2C. Next, I had a technical interview that focused more on my resume and signal processing. The final technical interview was quite relaxed, mainly discussing my interests and further resume questions. Unfortunately, they couldn't proceed with the fall internship due to internal company matters, and my friend received the same rejection email around the same time.
- Can you explain SPI vs I2C and provide use cases for each?
Electrical Engineer
After applying online, I heard back from Second Order Effects a few days later via email. We ended up having a 45-60 minute phone interview a few days after that. The initial 15 minutes focused on career and salary expectations, and then we spent the rest of the time on technical questions.
- Could you explain how to determine the total power a battery can supply?
Electrical Engineer
The interview was conducted by two people who took turns asking questions. They were very nice. They asked both behavioral and technical questions, focusing on team experiences and some circuits/coding problems.
- Can you share a time you led a team?
