Senior Software Developer
It was a pretty standard interview process. It kicked off with me introducing myself, then the manager asked about my work experience. After that, I had to answer some technical questions from the interviewer about the tech they use. The last part was a live online coding challenge where I had to share my screen so everyone could see my technical skills. The interviewers included a tech lead, a couple of senior devs, and two managers. While most of the questions were straightforward, some felt like the interviewer was fishing for a very specific answer, and others were trick questions designed to lead me astray. It felt like the whole point was to find any tiny error to disqualify me. They didn't explain how the online coding part would be assessed beforehand, and it seemed like just getting the logic right and the code working wasn't enough; they wanted to see a real mastery of the specific programming language. What was most disappointing was that the assessment didn't align with the company's stated values of inclusion and diversity, which was a major draw for me because they claim to value different experiences and tech backgrounds. Basically, big companies like Google, Apple, or Amazon might have tough interviews, but they usually come with a much better paycheck. This process felt too much like a struggle for a job that doesn't even pay top-tier in the industry. My advice: only apply if you've got every single skill listed in the job description down pat. Don't bother if you're not a master of their tech stack or if you're trying out something new, even if you're skilled elsewhere, because they'll nitpick and make you feel bad.
- Can you explain how to update a table, like adding a column, using the entity framework code-first approach?
Solution Developer
Had an initial HR call, a quick 10-minute screening to check my expectations and other fit aspects. Then, a 1-hour call with the Team Manager and Tech Lead where we discussed my past experience, they described the team and the role, and asked some moderately technical questions. The final interview was a group call with the rest of the developers, it was a deep technical discussion, essentially me versus the developers, and it started with a repository from my portfolio.
- Are you willing to take on the role of a scrum master?
- What are Angular RxJs Operators and what is their purpose?
- Discuss State Management.
Software Developer
We had an online meeting with some team members where we talked about the job and the company. They asked me some general programming questions and also some about me. Afterward, I went to the office for a tour and met some potential team members and coworkers.
- Tell me about generic Java programming.
- What are your OOP concepts?
- What do you know about Hibernate?
