First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Seattle Children's.
Patient Watch Specialist
The interview process was pretty quick and straightforward. I was asked the standard interview questions. It was very formal and structured, with a lot of situational questions. I heard back about the job within a week of applying, and then got the offer within a week after the interview.
- Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult situation.
- Can you describe a time you provided excellent patient care?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to de-escalate a tense moment.
Registered Nurse
The interview process started with behavioral questions that are straightforward if you're ready. One interviewer from the behavioral unit was quite rude, a guy in his 40s-50s. When I asked about the work culture, he read a paragraph from a paper about potential safety issues like violence, then asked if I still wanted the job. A week later, I was rejected due to a supposed "safety" issue concerning boundaries, which I thought was unfair given my good responses. I don't want to work with rude people anyway, and both interviews felt off, with one interviewer even snacking during the conversation.
- Can you describe a situation where you encountered a safety issue?
- What is the work culture like?
System Administrator
So, the first interview was basically a meet and greet with the hiring manager. It was a good chat, and they wanted to talk again. The second interview had two people from the team and was mostly about the basics of the job. It was okay, but it was nice meeting the team. They said they'd be in touch. I sent thank you notes to everyone and the recruiter, but then got totally ghosted for like 2-3 weeks, only to get an automated rejection. Kind of a bummer, especially after they talked about being a 'people' company, to not even get a courtesy message.
- Can you tell me about your experience in an Agile environment?
- How have you explained a technical problem to someone who isn't technical?
Program Coordinator
I had an informational chat with the hiring manager first. Then, I had a second interview which was a panel of 5 people (stakeholders and the Hiring Manager). The informational was done virtually, and the panel interview was onsite, although most of the interviewers joined remotely. I heard back about the informational within a week and about the panel interview within two weeks. The interviewers were really professional and made me feel welcome. It might have been a better experience if more people were actually there in person or at least had their cameras on during the panel.
- Can you share an instance where you disagreed with your manager and explain the outcome?
- Describe a situation where you made a mistake and how you handled it or what you would do differently.
- Could you give an example of a time you assisted a coworker?
