Assistant Store Manager
There were two pre-hire assessments which mainly focused on personality, like 'on the weekends I prefer to...a) party, b) read books c) watch television d) go to the club'. The 1st interview was with the Store Manager, following recent college graduate interview guidelines and a questionnaire. The 2nd interview was with Human Resources, where they asked more questions mostly about location, biggest weakness, and previous employment experiences. The 3rd interview was with the General Manager, who gave an overview of what they are looking for in terms of who should fill the position and left it open to questioning.
- The most difficult thing was to come up with specific examples from previous employment or college classes.
- This was just my personal experience because I worked two full time jobs and went to school full time all at once.
Store Manager
I had my first interview with the Store Manager, and it was really basic. They asked about my strengths and weaknesses, if I could share a customer service experience, my greatest accomplishment, and my management style. Then, I had a phone panel interview with 4 other store managers. They hit me with some tricky questions, like who is the hardest type of person to work with, a time my values were tested and how I handled it, and again about my strengths and weaknesses. The hardest part for me was defining 'conducive' and relating it to my past work. The third interview was with the district manager. He was super direct and to the point, not really asking typical interview questions. He mostly let me talk and ask him questions. My advice is to really research the company's history and bring your resume to every interview. Don't try to fake it; they'll call you out.
- Can you define conducive and give an example of how it relates to your work history?
- What can you tell me about our company?
Assistant Store Manager
First, I filled out an online application, and then I took an aptitude test with questions about reading reports and some situational questions. After that, I completed a long online personality test with really strange questions. Then the Store Manager called to schedule an interview. I arrived early, but the interviewer wasn't there. After they arrived late, we had the interview, with typical behavioral questions. They gave me a tour of the store, showing me the areas I'd be in charge of. Then I was given a mock report to study, which I'd have to discuss with the Store Manager later to find opportunities. The Store Manager was really late for that part, stopping for coffee first. We talked more, with more behavioral questions. They said they'd let candidates know by the next Thursday. I got a form email two and a half weeks later saying they found a more qualified candidate.
- Can you share an instance where you had to address a situation concerning reports?
- Describe a time you encountered a situational challenge.
- Could you tell me about a time you analyzed a mock sales/associate report and identified potential opportunities?
