First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sears.
Operations Manager
Sears has a pretty good interview process. They use the STAR method. First, there's an online assessment with the application. Then they have a phone interview, and if you pass that, they schedule a 1:1 interview, or they have a secretary take notes while the manager asks questions.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Operations Manager
I've been preparing for a career change from the military (Logistics/Supply Officer with over 20 years of experience and a post-graduate degree) for a while. I'm in the final stages with many companies and have two great offers already. I applied for an Operations Manager role at Sears Distribution/Logistics. I missed a call from them but called back right away. After I identified myself, the manager asked, "what's your deal?" and "are you looking for a job or not." I gave my usual intro, but the person was condescending. They told me the salary range, and I mentioned it was a bit lower than I was looking for, suggesting I might not be a good fit. The interviewer then mockingly said, "after you've looked around and not found anything give me a call and maybe we can talk." I resisted the urge to mention my better offers from their competitors who are running Sears out of business. I just thanked them and ended the call. I've since removed my profile from their site. I'll definitely tell people to avoid Sears if they ask about potential employers. While I might not be the right fit for this specific job, recruiters and managers represent the company.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Are you actively looking for employment?
Operations Manager
So, first there's this really long and tough test you gotta do before even talking to anyone. It's timed, you only get 1 hour to do 145 questions. If you do well on that, they'll call you for an interview. After the interview, you might hear back from Sears within 3 days about a job offer. But first, you gotta pass a background check and a drug test before they can give you a start date. The background check itself can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a whole month to get cleared.
- What's your work history like?
- What can you bring to the company if we hire you?
- What salary are you looking for?
