First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Seagate Technology.
Staff Engineer
It started with a telephonic round covering basic OOPS. The next day, I went to the Seagate office for an in-person interview. There were 18 candidates, and I went through 3 more technical rounds. They asked basic C++ and problem-solving questions, and frustratingly, they repeated questions in every round. The first round was from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. I then waited about an hour for the second round, which finished by 1:30 PM. They suggested we get something to eat and return. However, no food was provided, and the cafeteria was closed since it was a Saturday. I waited, expecting a manager or HR round. At 3:15 PM, I was called for another discussion, which was again technical and very basic, with repeated questions. This round lasted an hour, and the interviewer asked me to write builder pattern code on paper. I mentioned I couldn't do that at the moment and suggested discussing a problem and how the builder pattern could be applied. I was quite tired by then. The interviewer soon asked me to leave. An HR representative approached and inquired if I was finished. I confirmed, and she conferred with the panel before informing me to leave for the day. I haven't received any response so far.

Staff Engineer
A professor who has connections with Seagate initially referred me in March 2012. The company didn't reach out until May 2012 for an interview. My first interview was with two senior staff engineers, and it was quite informal. We mostly discussed my previous work history and what the role at Seagate would entail. After that, I had conversations with a couple of senior directors. These discussions were also informal and covered similar topics.
- Were there any particularly challenging questions in your case?
- Tell me about your previous research and experiences.
Staff Engineer
I had a phone call interview, then I was invited for onsite interviews. The phone interview was about 45 minutes long. The onsite interviews included a 1:1, panel interviews, and a skills test. The whole experience was good. All my interviewers were long-time employees and seemed to really love their jobs. The last interviewer gave me a tour of the company and showed me the seagate manufacturing process.
- How would you approach the task of moving Mount Fuji?
