First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Seagate Technology.
Senior Engineer
A Seagate recruiter reached out to me and I sent over my resume. The manager then called me for an hour-long chat, sounding pretty keen. After about 10 days, an HR person set up an onsite interview for three days later. They booked my travel and hotel. I had to prep an hour-long research presentation. I got a detailed interview schedule for 9am-3pm a few days before. The interview day involved my presentation and Q&A, followed by about 8 one-on-one chats with different people, from junior engineers to a VP. The team seemed smart and asked good questions, explaining their work. I talked a lot about myself and my experience, but it felt straightforward, not tricky. They seemed happy with my profile. Lunch with the manager was followed by my final meeting with HR, where we discussed salary and other potential jobs. I was a bit cagey but hinted at another offer and expressed my strong interest in Seagate. A few days later, they matched my other offer.
- Could you list the electronic design software tools you have experience with?
- Tell me about your background and personal traits.
- What are your salary expectations?
Engineer
Got a call to set up a Phone interview, which went well. Then, I was set for an in-person interview, but the hiring manager couldn't make it when I got there. They called me again for a second in-person interview with some Engineering folks, some Marketing folks (not all showed up), and the Sr. Director. It was about 3.5 hours and seemed to go well too. HR was fast setting these up, but then went quiet until I asked for an update via email. They replied saying 'our update will be provided by the end of the week (4 days time) either way.' Didn't get the courtesy update that week. The next week I emailed again for a status and was told the position was downgraded to an entry-level role. They thanked me for my time and suggested I keep Seagate in mind for future opportunities.
- How many times does the digit 7 appear in numbers from 0 to 100?
Engineer
The interview process is pretty standard. You'll talk with about 3 or 4 people in total. This usually includes your potential Hiring Manager, a Director, maybe one or two people who would be your colleagues, and then someone from HR.
- Could you provide a proof for a given engineering theory?
- Sometimes they ask a question to prove an engineering theory, depending on whether the interviewer feels like showing off their technical knowledge.
