Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Screwfix.
Service Assistant
The interview process is pretty straightforward. You'll first be asked about your research and then go over your CV with them. It's really important to mention any related experience you have, particularly for Screwfix. If you have any click and collect experience, definitely bring that up since you'll be using RDT guns and picking orders.
- Tell me what you know about Screwfix.
- Can you share your research findings about the company?
- Could you please go through your CV with us?
Service Assistant
I got a call from the store manager inviting me to a recruitment day. I got there a bit early, but the staff were late, which was okay since the place was a bit hidden. Some other candidates and I realized not everyone knew it'd be a whole morning thing, and the company apologized for that. We started by introducing ourselves to everyone. Then, we were split into two groups. My group stayed put while the other group went for interviews. My group was then divided into smaller teams, and we had to create a board game idea for Screwfix customers. After that, we were asked about how we'd handle customer service scenarios. Later, the groups switched, and we had our interviews. The interview itself was pretty chill and friendly. I got a job offer about 10 days later over the phone and even got a welcome card!
- Can you share an instance from your past work experience where you dealt with and overcame frustration?
Service Assistant
I applied online. A few weeks later I got an email saying their store opening had been delayed and they would be looking at applications starting the week of March 25. My next interaction was a phone call a couple weeks later inviting me to a recruitment event. The event was 2.5 hours long. It involved group activities and a 1-1 interview. About a week and a half after the event I received an email telling me I was unsuccessful.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a challenging customer.
