First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Screwfix.
Retail Assistant
The interview itself was quite easy and the people there were really nice. They mainly asked about why I wanted to join Screwfix and what good customer service involves. About a week after my interview, I got an email that seemed like an offer but it was missing key details like dates and the specific location. I asked for clarification, thinking it might be a technical issue. Then, 24 hours later, I received a generic rejection email. I emailed again to check if I actually had the job. The next day, another impersonal email arrived stating they had sent the offer by mistake and I was not hired. The interviewers were pleasant, but the aftermath has been a stressful and poorly managed experience, especially since I had turned down other job offers based on the initial 'offer'.

- Could you describe your understanding of excellent customer service?
Retail Assistant
It was pretty chill. I had two people interviewing me. They asked me to introduce myself, then asked some standard retail questions like what I know about the company, why I'm interested in working there, and to share an example of when I've been a good team player.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What is your understanding of Screwfix?
- What makes you want to join our team?
Store Assistant
The interview was kinda laid back, started a bit formal but then got more chill. It felt pretty comfy, and we even had a few jokes after they started it. It kicked off with questions about me – like my hobbies, skills, and stuff from my CV, especially past jobs. Then we talked about the company, like their sustainability aims, the kinds of stuff they sell, and their goals and how they're doing, which was all easy to look up beforehand. After that, they asked about times I've given good customer service, gotten good feedback, or messed up and what I did to get better. We also chatted about what the job actually is and what a normal day would be like at Screwfix, covering deliveries, helping customers, stocking shelves, pushing sales, and other odd jobs. The last bit was for me to ask them questions. They actually offered me the job right then and there, and the official offer came by email a few days later.
- What do you know about our sustainability aims?
