Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scotts Miracle-Gro.
Sales Manager
Had several video interviews, starting with the District Manager and then moving up to the Regional and Corporate levels. They asked questions and we discussed the role, what they expect, and how my knowledge of the territory and my past experience would be useful.
- In what ways would your personal attributes distinguish you as a Sales Manager for this specific territory?
Sales Manager
So I had like 8 interviews before they gave me the offer. Two of them were face-to-face and the rest were over the phone. After I got the offer, the background check took three whole weeks.
- Can you explain your extended period of unemployment?
Sales Manager
Had a phone interview that went well, mostly basic background questions. Then a second interview with the District Manager and the person who used to do this job (he got promoted). Thought this interview went really well, with more detailed questions about my work history, future plans, and some situational questions, but nothing too intense or awkward. I felt good about it all, but then got a "thanks, but no thanks" email a few days later, which was a bummer. Too bad. It seemed like a good place to work. The interviewers were nice and professional, but not overly formal. The company has a good reputation for career growth. I suspect they're looking for younger employees eager to move up the corporate ladder.
- Would you be open to working extended hours (over 60 per week) during peak periods like Spring and early Summer?
