Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scotiabank.
Associate Director
The interview process had 3 stages. It started with a phone screen with a recruiter, followed by an interview with the hiring manager, and then an interview with the hiring manager's supervisor. Each interview was about 45 minutes to an hour long. They also asked me to do a case study.
- Tell me about some situations you've encountered.
- Describe your past behaviors in certain scenarios.
- Perform the assigned case study.
Associate
My first interview was a mix of behavioral and technical questions. I didn't have an HR screening or any HR contact, and the interview was set up just by sending a calendar invite.
- Can you explain a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) to me?
Summer Associate
There were two interviews, and they interviewed about 15 people in the first round out of 400 resumes. The first interview was mostly technical with more junior interviewers. The second one was more behavioral, and then there was a test on markets juncture with more senior interviewers.
- Could you explain what VaR is and how it's measured?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join Scotiabank?
- Can you elaborate on the XYZ experience listed on your resume?
