First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scorpion.
Software Engineer
I was reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn who told me about the company and role for about 30 mins. Then, they set up a technical interview with a VP and a director of engineering. The questions covered Agile, database performance, cloud platforms, .Net, and dependency injection. After that, I had a take-home assessment with 2 questions on database design and a C# coding exercise, which took 3-4 hours. Finally, I had another call with the recruiter which was mostly behavioral questions about handling criticism and difficult colleagues, plus salary negotiation, and lasted 45 mins.
- Tell me about yourself
- Tell me about your experience with Agile processes
- How do you approach database performance optimization
Software Engineer
The interview process at Scorpion was quite unusual. It started with a recruiter call, who was initially friendly and responsive. This was followed by an informal interview with the recruiter where we discussed my experience and its fit for the role. Then, I had a technical deep-dive with the VP of Engineering and a Principal Engineer, covering OOP, programming, and online protocols. Although I did well, they felt I lacked a bit more experience for that specific role. However, they offered me a second chance for another Senior Software Engineer position. I interviewed with the Hiring Manager, which seemed to go very well as my skills matched their team's needs. Next, I met with the team, including the Director of Software Development, developers, and a Product Manager, for about two hours. The feedback after this was positive, with the director expressing a desire to work together. Communication then became difficult with the recruiter about the next steps. After some follow-up, the recruiter eventually informed me that the manager wanted to interview more candidates and I'd hear back in about a week and a half. Unfortunately, I never received a definitive answer by the promised date.
- Can you explain why SOAP is considered more secure than REST?
Software Engineer
The interview process was very efficient. The recruiter was helpful, and the questions were straightforward. It took a bit longer than expected due to the time zone difference (Pacific vs. Eastern). A video call for the initial interview would have been better.
- Could you start by telling us about yourself and your current professional experience?
