First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scoop Technologies.
Frontend Engineer
My friend who works at Scoop told me they were hiring, and a recruiter contacted me really fast because I was already interviewing elsewhere. They sent over a coding challenge, which I submitted. Since I was in a rush, they set up an onsite interview almost immediately. They even made me an offer a few hours after the onsite finished! I was super impressed with how professional everyone was, how quickly things moved, and how warm and excited everyone seemed. It was clear this company and its mission inspire passion. Even though I had other offers from bigger companies, Scoop stood out because of the environment, mentorship, and how happy and dedicated everyone was to the mission.
- Tell me about typical engineering questions.
- Can you discuss algorithms?
- What are your thoughts on systems design?
Community Support Advisor
I was contacted on LinkedIn by a manager at Scoop about a Community Support Advisor position. A recruiter then reached out to set up an initial Skype interview. After that, the manager mentioned they'd have the recruiter schedule a second Skype interview with another manager and discuss salary. The second interview was with someone from a different department who seemed more interested in talking about their own experiences than listening to my answers. They said they needed to check with the first manager but were out of town. I waited a few days and then messaged the recruiter. After a couple of days, the recruiter replied that they had decided to move forward with other candidates.
- Can you tell me about your hobbies or what you enjoy doing outside of work?
Executive Assistant
I applied online on the company website. The recruiter reached out to schedule a 30 min call. The recruiter was friendly and asked basic questions. I asked the recruiter what the company culture was like as we were hit with the COVID19 and I know that it was affecting their business. She said that the company was positioned financially well and that there weren't any concerns of layoffs in the near future. I kid you not, 2 weeks later the company laid off about 45 employees. Smh. Recruiter was not honest and I'm glad I didn't move on to the next round.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Software Engineer
I had a phone screen back in late 2016 with one of the engineers. When I brought up the topic of office noise due to my sound sensitivities (I'm autistic), the interviewer's demeanor changed significantly, becoming quite cold, and they ended the call. While they might have improved their inclusivity since then, this experience deeply affected me and heavily influences my thoughts on disclosing my neurodivergence to employers when I consider future opportunities.
- Could you describe the office environment regarding noise levels, considering I have sound sensitivities due to being autistic?
