First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Scientific Research Corporation.
Integration Engineer
The interview process was pretty simple and organized. First, there was a screening call with the recruiter where we talked about my background, experience, and projects. Then, a phone interview with a Program Manager where we discussed my work history, leadership experience, and career goals, which seemed to be about assessing long-term fit.
- Can you describe a situation where you needed to fix a complicated system problem? What steps did you take?
Software Engineer
I had a short phone screen with a recruiter and then a single on-site interview by some of the technical staff. By the attitudes of people I met, I got the distinct impression they were hemorrhaging talent and desperate to just fill the role as opposed to develop a good long-term employee. This was confirmed when I received a verbal offer the next day and told I had 3 days to respond once the written offer arrived. I said I would need at least a week to consider but the recruiter just asked what salary number he needed to get for me to accept in the timeframe. Needless to say, I heeded the red flags. Two friends and former colleagues of mine went to work here; one left and the other is trying to leave. They work on cool technologies, but it seems like a disorganized work environment with a ton of nepotism in management.
- When would you be available to start?
Field Service Engineer
The type of questions you'll get really depends on the Team Lead hiring for the role. I was asked some very specific questions about DoD technology, plus general system administrator questions. I wasn't super familiar with some of the niche products they used, but I had a strong background as an administrator.
- Can you explain the different types of access control available in RHEL?
- Tell me about the specific DoD technology questions you were asked.
- What were some of the general system administrator questions you faced?
Program Administrator
I wouldn't know. This applicant interface is the WORST I've ever seen. It is so demanding and precise it'll take you FOREVER to apply for a job. I got to 10 minutes and stopped. Do you have a phone number? You'll need to enter it in a specific format. Have international experience? There are a TON of errors and popups for that. Did you answer 'Never been employed by the government'? Never fear, there will be 100 more questions about what gov't agency you've worked for-- the system doesn't tailor followups dependent on previous answers. It also can't import/parse your resume properly. My guess is that this interface was invented by some truly masochistic devs with no user empathy or UI/UX skills. Hope you love this job, because in the time it takes you to figure this out, you could probs apply for 30 jobs elsewhere.
