& Process

I attended an open call at Manatee Technical College. It's recommended to bring multiple copies of your resume, dress in business attire, and have a pen and paper handy. Be prepared to answer questions related to managing a classroom, strategies for assisting students who are struggling academically, and general inquiries about your motivation for seeking employment at that specific institution.

It took quite a while to get an interview, about nine years, because my application wasn't updated to show I was eligible. It seems like HR was pretty lazy, and it took intervention from someone on the School Board to get a simple checkbox ticked. But once that was done, I got an interview within two days.

The first interview was over the phone and was generic. Then I was invited to come in for an in-person group style interview. When I arrived I was greeted by a cranky receptionist and then had to wait for a long time to meet with the interviewers. It was very unorganized and I definitely had second thoughts about wanting to work there. I was called back for another one-on-one interview. The overall environment was stale. I never received a call or letter to let me know that I wasn't selected after completing the interviews. I don't plan to pursue any positions with this employer in the future after this experience.

The whole process from interviewing to starting the job is quite long and involves several stages. Sometimes, the initial virtual interviews are followed by in-person interviews. It was hard to know who to reach out to since I interacted with multiple people throughout.
