First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Schlotzsky's.
Sales Associate
This Schlotzsky's interview was a good time, they were upfront about what they expected. The person interviewing me was super friendly and easy to talk to. The questions they asked made sense given my background.
- Tell me about your prior experience in fast food.
Crew Member
I went in one day after school to see if they were hiring and the general manager gave me an application. I submitted it about 2 weeks ago and got a call last Saturday to set up an interview for today. I went in at 4pm and was interviewed by the owner, who made me feel more comfortable. At the end he said they would let me know if I got the job.
- What are your three strongest qualities?
- Can you share an instance where you needed to adjust to a situation rapidly?
Cashier
I had my first interview with the Store Manager and it seemed to go well; they acted like they wanted to hire me. But then they said I had to have a second interview with the Asst Manager. She seemed nice at first, but when I brought up my old home business, she seemed a little put off, maybe because I used business terms she didn't get. Then she changed her tune and said they weren't hiring for another month or so. (Which made me wonder why I was even there!) She also mentioned at the end that this was my first interview, when it was actually my second. I called the store manager back, and he said the Asst Manager was confused and didn't realize it was my second interview because she had just returned from vacation. He told me to call back Monday because they'd have a decision then, as the Asst Manager was sick. I called on Monday, and they said they didn't need anyone right now and would contact me when they needed employees.
- Have you worked in food service before?
- Do you possess a food handling permit?
General Manager
The interviewer called. Instead of standard questions, he posed inquiries that seemed to make assumptions about my past. For example, he stated, “I see you were an insurance manager. This job is not a cushiony 9-5 nice setting. Why do you think you could handle it?” All the questions were similar. It felt unprofessional because he assumed things about my experience rather than asking directly. I actually worked 6-7 days a week, 12-13 hour days in the field as an insurance manager. Frankly, the interviewer sounded miserable, tired, and defeated, like he hated his job. This experience wouldn't make me want to work there, even if offered the position.
- Considering your past as an insurance manager and that this role is not a relaxed 9-5 position, what makes you think you are suited for it?
