The interview process with HR was great and easy. I attended just one step of the interview and did not proceed because of the job requirements. I spoke with only the HR and she loved my experience. But based on the base salary, it was not favorable for me and I did not follow up.

I applied through a referral in October, and was contacted by Brandon who was wonderful and kept me in the loop from start to finish setting up each step. He was personable and friendly and handled the final offer which I received in January. My interview rounds were conducted via Zoom and included an initial screening with Brandon, a technical interview round, and a final company culture fit round with the department director. Each interview felt like a conversation. I was impressed with how genuine everyone responded when I asked about work life balance and company culture. I left each conversation excited about Schellman’s work environment and cannot wait to join the team!

The interview process kicked off with a CTF game that gave us 24 hours to complete, plus another 24 for the report. After that, there was a technical interview with a panel and a principal interview. It was really tough to schedule this process if you're already working, and honestly, it felt more suited for students with less experience. The benefits package looks good initially, but the 10% match isn't immediate. They also weren't budging on the offer, hoping that unofficial perks like quarterly bonuses and company trips would compensate for an offer that was below market value. It would have been better to know this upfront, especially since they don't seem willing to pay top dollar for talent.

Behavioral Technical Case

I reached out to Lori on LinkedIn after checking out Schellman's job postings. She was super friendly and helpful. Unlike other companies where the hiring process can take forever, she was quick to respond and worked around my schedule to set up interviews. First, I had a chat with another Sr. Associate. It was a chance for him to ask me some general questions and for me to learn about the company culture. Then, I interviewed with a manager from my department. This was more of a technical interview where he asked about my past experience and how I'd approach testing specific controls. Next, I met with a principal. This interview was mostly him explaining the company and asking about my background. He also made sure I could ask him anything. Lastly, I had a casual lunch with a principal in my city, which was a great way to get to know the company and my local team better.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The manager inquired about NIST 800-53 related matters, with varying difficulty.
  • He specifically asked about my methods for testing certain controls, like access controls, encryption, and auditing.
