It was a very professional and fast process, though demanding. They had technical questions related to my expertise, a technical presentation about the company and its technology, and a take-home technical exercise (which was pressure-free). Compared to typical recruitment processes at other large firms, Scality's felt less academic and less susceptible to candidates just memorizing algorithms. Then, I had meetings with both technical and non-technical staff, including sales and finance, to make sure I was a good fit.

I interviewed for a position in the Paris office. The first step was a general IT knowledge multiple-choice quiz, with various questions in a Google Doc to fill out online in 30 minutes. The second step was a 'C test' via email, where I had to comment on a code snippet in 15 minutes. Then, there was an afternoon of interviews: meeting the manager, a 1-hour coding test, a 30-minute debrief of the test with a team member, and meeting a second team member for some algorithmic questions. I haven't heard back despite following up and having traveled for the entire afternoon for them.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • The coding test involved implementing from scratch, preferably in C, a program that reads a given text file and counts the frequency of each word using a specified number of threads (n), which should be a parameter to the program.
  • Comment on a given piece of code.
  • Implement a program that reads a text file and counts the occurrences of each word using 'n' threads, where 'n' is a parameter.

The hiring process is pretty long, with up to 8 interviews, but it gives you a good feel for the company before deciding. First, an HR phone screen, then a 30-minute C test via email. After that, a 45-minute Skype chat about technical and personal stuff with your potential manager. Then, there's a short but tough C programming project. Next, you spend an afternoon at Scality's Paris office doing a series of technical interviews. This is followed by a 30-minute chat with the potential team lead, another 30-minute chat with the VP of Engineering, and finally, a 30-minute interview with the CTO.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Make sure you're familiar with the company culture. Also, refresh your understanding of storage and general system programming.
  • Brush up on your storage and system programming skills and knowledge.
