Scality Interview Questions
& Process

The whole thing took about two weeks. First, I talked to the hiring manager. Then, I had a technical interview with someone from the team. I didn't quite have the skills they were looking for since I didn't have much Linux experience before. The manager told me that upfront, but I managed to talk him into letting me do the technical interview after a week of teaching myself stuff. Maybe it was my excitement about tech and how much I care about the customer experience. During the technical test, the engineer I was with was super helpful and walked me through everything until I got it. He spent about an hour with me! I actually learned stuff, which is pretty rare these days in a tech interview. Some folks just scoff at wrong answers and make you feel bad, but not these guys! I really respect the manager and the engineer I spoke with, and I'm sure if you have the skills they need, you'll really like the interview process. I'd love to work with them someday because their technology seems amazing and they clearly have top-notch people.

The hiring process is pretty long, with up to 8 interviews, but it gives you a good feel for the company before deciding. First, an HR phone screen, then a 30-minute C test via email. After that, a 45-minute Skype chat about technical and personal stuff with your potential manager. Then, there's a short but tough C programming project. Next, you spend an afternoon at Scality's Paris office doing a series of technical interviews. This is followed by a 30-minute chat with the potential team lead, another 30-minute chat with the VP of Engineering, and finally, a 30-minute interview with the CTO.

I had 6 interviews total. It started with two phone calls, then I met the sales team member I'd be working with. After that, two more phone calls came up, one with another sales team member and one with the VP of Marketing. I had two Skype calls, one of them with the CEO. He was super smart and direct. He asked how my past experience would apply to this role and specifically how I'd handle sales process changes. Everyone at HQ is tough to read, even when you ask for feedback or support to move forward. If you do get past the interviews, things move really fast.

This was a pretty simple process. We had 2 phone rounds with basic questions. Then they scheduled an onsite interview. The interviewer was really rude and acted like they knew everything and invented Linux. I'm glad I declined the offer. They really need to be more polite and professional during interviews. Also, their English is hard to understand, which makes communication difficult.
