First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sberbank.
Software Developer
So the interview kicked off with me talking about my background, then I had to do this coding challenge where I optimized a SQL query. After that, they wanted me to talk about REST vs GraphQL APIs, like, what's good and bad about each. Then came the fun part where I had to architect a whole e-commerce platform, making sure it could handle a lot of traffic and the database was speedy. It ended with some questions about working with others, hitting deadlines, and being flexible, which was a decent mix of techy and soft skill stuff.
- Could you differentiate between REST and GraphQL APIs, detailing the benefits and drawbacks of each?
- What strategies can you employ to enhance the performance of an underperforming SQL query?
- Explain the function of garbage collection in languages such as Java and Python, including its operational mechanisms and constraints.
Software Engineer
The interview process was quite smooth and straightforward. If you're familiar with the technologies mentioned in the job description, you're likely to get hired. There was a technical round and a managerial round. HR rounds are not typical at SBER; they expect candidates to accept the offered salary. There was no information provided about benefits, which are apparently non-existent in India, and PF contributions are only the minimum required by the government, with no additional perks. The company currently has about 55 employees.
- Tell me about your experience with Spring boot.
- Can you answer some questions about Java?
Software Engineer
It was one technical screening with two people. The first one was a software engineer, and the second one was someone from top management who asked logical tasks. Both were very kind people. That's all.
- Questions about Java, Spring, multi-threading, and Git were asked.
- Logical tasks were presented.
