First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sazerac.
Market Development Representative
The whole interview process with this company was a disaster and unprofessional. It started two months ago when a recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn. They liked my background and talked about the interview process and what the hiring managers were looking for. This led to a stressful period of constant resume editing and doing what felt like free work to make the recruiting department look good. The interviews with field leadership managers were good; they used a STAR method to ask about situations and how I'd handle them to grow professionally. I got advice on how to act and what to know before meeting with hiring managers. I thought I did well in all interviews and was told we were 'close to an offer, but the resume needed leadership approval.' I told the recruiter I had other offers, including a better one in a different industry, but that I'd choose them because I'm passionate about wine and spirits. Then, about a month and a half in, a different management recruiter called, saying my original recruiter had left and she was taking over. She didn't know where things stood, so I had to explain everything again. Despite seeing this as a red flag due to company instability and turnover, I confirmed my salary expectations and told her I'd sign if approved. She asked for another week to get the offer approved by leadership. Instead, I got no response and when I followed up, she said, 'Your offer was not approved by management and they decided to go with another candidate. Sorry.'

This was honestly one of the worst interview experiences I've ever had. The recruiter reached out on LinkedIn about an opening, and we chatted later that week. During the interview, she commented on my resume, suggesting I include past roles irrelevant to this position, even ones from over 8 years ago. I didn't feel excited about the job; she was passive-aggressive and condescending, asking non-relevant questions like 'why the career change?' even though the role aligns with my experience and current responsibilities on a larger scale. It felt like our time could have been better spent on relevant questions. To top it off, I was turned down because she didn't pay attention to my location, making the role irrelevant anyway. Overall, a really bad experience; I wouldn't have taken the job even if offered. I'm dissatisfied because my time was wasted due to her negligence.
- Can you describe your past experience and how it relates to this role?
- What prompted your career change?
Market Development Representative
I had one interview over Zoom, and it was pretty straightforward. The recruiter sent over all the benefits info beforehand and some tips on what to look into before my actual interview, which was super helpful.
- Can you describe your experience in this field?
- How do you organize your day as a sales rep?
- What would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
