Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SayABC.
Teacher
It was a nice interview, they asked good questions and really dug into what I can do. They were nice and polite, not judging at all. It was fast and to the point, with direct questions and a clear structure.
- Can you discuss your experience?
- What about your studies?
- What certificates do you have?
Teacher
You apply on the website and submit your resume. If you have some college education and/or speak English at a native level, you'll likely get an initial selection. Having white skin might also help. Make sure there are no interruptions during the interview and wear a neat, conservative shirt (buttoned or collared; women should cover their shoulders). Use a plain background so you stand out. The most crucial part is the mock interview. Get the software set up beforehand to practice and check your internet and sound. Be on time. You might want to record the interview to create a reference for what works well and what doesn't for future interviews. Compare it with examples on YouTube.
- Conduct a mock class.
Teacher
Do your research before the interview. Go to their website and submit your application which will then allow you to chose a time slot for your interview. Your interview will be about 30 minutes. A person will ask you about your experience and then move on to a demonstration class that you need to prepare. They will have told you to download their platform. On there you will be able to access the class you have to teach. You really really need to go on YouTube and watch one of the girls talk you through the class you are going to demonstrate teaching!
- You need to do a demo class.
- You should YouTube 'SayABC Interview' for help.
- I recommend Rachael McKeeth's page for lots of information and a run down of what you need to know for the interview.
