Student Worker
Once you've applied and been shortlisted, they'll let you know what to prepare. Typically, you'll need to give a presentation about yourself, your background, and your reasons for studying forestry. You'll also get a short scenario to tackle in your presentation, showing how you'd apply basic forestry practices. On the interview day, they'll greet you, make you feel welcome, and introduce you to the panel, which is usually four people. You'll then give your presentation. After that, they'll ask some straightforward questions, possibly referencing your application or presentation. These questions might also check your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. They'll then give you time to ask your own questions. To wrap things up, they'll inform you about when you can expect to hear back.
- Imagine you're a forest manager, and the harvesting manager has just given you a compartment to get ready for the next rotation. What would be your plan of action?
Summer Intern
First, you submit your resume. Then, you take a skills and mechanical aptitude test. After that, you wait for a call to see if you passed. If you pass, they'll set up a panel interview with a few hiring committee members. Once you pass the panel, you'll get a call for a drug screen appointment and a tentative start date. Your first week will be classroom-style orientation, then you'll go to your department for specific training.
- What is your worst trait or something you feel you need to improve on in the workplace?
Intern
The interview was virtual and involved a panel of two people. However, someone was frequently entering and exiting the room, which was disruptive. The role advertised as an internship seemed to involve duties of a permanent position, as the original person in that role had not yet been replaced, which felt like a catch.
- Could you tell me what you know about Sappi products?
