First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sappi.
Sales Apprentice
I met some team members at a school recruiting event and had some more conversations the next day about a job opportunity. They were really nice people and answered all my questions super thoroughly. I'm hoping to keep building relationships with the company.
- Could you describe your past experiences that you feel have prepared you for this position?
Communications Manager
The interview process with Sappi went smoothly overall. Everyone I spoke with was friendly. The first round was with HR, followed by a second interview with the director, and then a final roundtable discussion. After the final round, I expected to receive an update but, unfortunately, never heard back (was ghosted). I followed up twice but was never formally informed that I hadn’t been selected. While the overall experience was positive, I was disappointed by the lack of communication at the end, which felt unprofessional.
- Can you walk me through your professional background?
- Could you present some of your work samples?
Human Resources Generalist and Office Manager
The interview process was long, with 3 virtual interviews and then one in-person. There was a lot of inconsistency during this interview process about the role and what the responsibilities were. I wish I had been told some things sooner rather than later, or else I wouldn't have wasted my time going all the way there for an interview.
- Would you be able to handle it if they were rude to you when assigning tasks?
Student Worker
Once you've applied and been shortlisted, they'll let you know what to prepare. Typically, you'll need to give a presentation about yourself, your background, and your reasons for studying forestry. You'll also get a short scenario to tackle in your presentation, showing how you'd apply basic forestry practices. On the interview day, they'll greet you, make you feel welcome, and introduce you to the panel, which is usually four people. You'll then give your presentation. After that, they'll ask some straightforward questions, possibly referencing your application or presentation. These questions might also check your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. They'll then give you time to ask your own questions. To wrap things up, they'll inform you about when you can expect to hear back.
- Imagine you're a forest manager, and the harvesting manager has just given you a compartment to get ready for the next rotation. What would be your plan of action?
