Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Santander.
Internal Auditor
I had an interview with HR that went for about an hour. They seemed really interested in my background, both academic and professional, so we talked about what I've been up to in recent years and what makes me want to apply for this specific job.
- What motivated you to apply for this role?
- What are your personal and professional interests?
- Can you share an example of a challenge you faced in your career and the steps you took to overcome it?
Internal Audit Manager
After applying online, I had an initial screening call with HR for about 30 minutes. Typically, this role has a two-stage interview process: first with two senior managers, then a final one with another senior manager or director. However, my process was compressed; I only had one interview with three senior managers, which was intended to speed things up but felt a bit more intense. I received an offer two days after the interview.
- Can you discuss your work experience and how it's relevant to Internal Audit, providing specific examples?
- What is your experience with reporting within internal audit?
- Tell me about your background in governance and internal audit.
Internal Auditor
I was first contacted by a recruiter and they forwarded my resume. A phone screen about the role happened seven weeks later, which was quite basic. Then, an interview was scheduled within 48 hours. I met with two staff members, three managers, and a director across four separate interviews. Their interview process felt unstructured, and they didn't ask many behavioral questions. Some interviewers were more skilled than others. One manager admitted they hadn't reviewed my resume and mostly read questions with their eyes down. A couple of people seemed to grasp my background. The less experienced interviewers struggled to connect my past audit experience to the job requirements. The difficulties weren't with the interviews themselves, but with some interviewers' inexperience, lack of prep, or poor question choices. I felt this aspect of the process somewhat limited me. Generally, it was a fairly smooth and simple process. I'm unsure if I truly showcased my capabilities. It's been a week with no follow-up, but I'm hoping for a callback.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
- What are your personal strengths and weaknesses?
- What motivates your interest in this position?
